Cynefim Framework

Knowledge management plays an essential role when talks about business, because it helps to make accurate decisions.
There are some frameworks which represent different circumstances where decisions have to be made. One of the structures more useful is the CYNEFIN which is a decision-analytical framework that “recognize the causal differences that exist between systems types and propose new approaches to decision-making in complex social environments” (Snowden, 2002). This framework has been used in Project Management, IT Design, knowledge management and so on. It identifies four categories which are: Simple, Complicated, Complex and Chaotic.
The first quadrant shows conditions of cause and effect and the action to respond to this is sense after catalogue it (categorized) and finally respond, normally this type of solutions are called best practices, because already exist knowledge about that situation and actions can be taken easily. The second quadrant is called complicated where are problems that can be resolved with help of experts but require some analysis before to decide the path to follow, these situation are known as good practices. The third domain is named Complex because there are problems with the solution are unknown and need experimental practice and innovation before get the adequate answer, this condition generates new knowledge and in a future can be useful to resolve other situations. The final quadrant is called chaos where does not exist any relationship between cause and effect and the way to resolve this situation is take actions and do something until find out the best solution.
To end the Cynefin framework helps to understand how things happen in an organization and how is the best way to lead with them trying to find the best answer.
